Independence Hop & Heritage Festival

Location & Contact:

Corner of Main & C Street
Independence, OR 97351

Description:

The "original" Hop Festival, also known as the Hop Fiesta, began in early 1930's. The festival grew out of the celebrations in the migrant camps at the hop fields. These celebrations marked the end of hop harvest. Today, the Hop & Heritage Festival is a commission of the City of Independence. The festival grows every year, but has stayed true to its nature. We are bringing back favorites from the past and we will be introducing new items that we hope will quickly become part of the history of the festival. The Independence Hop & Heritage Festival happens every last full weekend in September. We feature vendors who sell local crafts and foods, feature competitions from Pie Eating to Homebrew Competitions. Mission: To achieve recognition for Independence as the site of a rich heritage celebration for a century of hops. Vision: The committee will successfully present a widely recognized annual festival that celebrates the historical contribution of the local hop industry and its influence on the Independence area.
